Ticket Donations
When you donate tickets to TixGiving Foundation, you may be eligible to claim a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the tickets.
Two-Stage Receipt Process
Following IRS best practices for non-cash donations, we use a two-stage receipt process:
- 1.Acknowledgment Letter — Issued when your donation is approved. This confirms receipt of your donation but is not your final tax document.
- 2.Final Tax Receipt — Issued after the event has passed or tickets have been claimed by beneficiaries. This is the official document for tax purposes.
What Your Final Receipt Includes
- Written acknowledgment of your completed donation
- Description of the donated tickets
- Statement that no goods or services were provided in exchange
- A statement that we do not appraise or value donated property (valuing it is your responsibility under IRS Publication 561)
- Our organization's EIN for your records
Fair Market Value (FMV) Guidelines
Donor Responsibility
As a donor, you are responsible for determining and substantiating the fair market value of your donation. TixGiving Foundation cannot provide tax advice or determine FMV for you.
Determining Fair Market Value
The fair market value is generally the price at which the tickets would sell on the open market. Consider:
- •The original face value of the tickets
- •Current resale market prices for similar seats
- •The date and desirability of the event
- •Seat location and quality
Documentation Requirements
For donations valued at $250 or more, you'll need:
- •A written acknowledgment from TixGiving Foundation (we provide this)
- •Documentation of how you determined the FMV
For donations valued at more than $5,000, additional requirements including a qualified appraisal may apply.
Monetary Donations
Cash donations to TixGiving Foundation are generally tax-deductible. You will receive a receipt for your records after your payment is processed.
For donations of $250 or more, keep your receipt as documentation. For donations made by credit card, your statement serves as additional proof of the donation.
